History & Hospitality

Right on the square, where Faaborg's cobbled streets meet the harbor and the South Fyn Archipelago, lies Hotel Faaborg.

A small boutique hotel with just ten rooms, where presence, history, and personal hospitality are at the core of everything we do.

We are Louise and Allan, and since December 2025, we have had the pleasure of calling Hotel Faaborg ours. After many years in the marketing industry, we chose to trade the office for a hotel because we longed for something more human. A place where relationships matter more than routines, and where memorable experiences are created through fine details and genuine personal connection.

When we first stepped through the door, we knew the hotel possessed something truly special. Not only because of the beautiful building, but because the house radiates history and has been part of Faaborg for generations. Here, we saw the opportunity to create a hotel where guests do not merely stay overnight, but experience the town from within.

The hotel holds a long history. Until 1915, two half-timbered houses from the 1600s stood on the site, before a fire reduced the buildings to ashes. Just the following year, the current hotel was erected as "Landmandshotellet" by hotelier Laurits Kruuse based on drawings by architect Frits Jørgensen. More than a hundred years later, the characteristic red-brick building with its granite base and striking mansard roof still forms a beautiful backdrop to life on the square.

We view ourselves as the latest custodians in a long story. Therefore, we do not wish to alter the hotel’s soul – we want to protect it. We have preserved the house’s charm and combined it with modern comfort and a relaxed atmosphere. The interior is created with respect for the building's history and an eye for fine details, where classic elements meet local finds and personal stories.

The fact that Hotel Faaborg has only ten rooms is one of our greatest strengths. This intimate size creates space for presence, time for a chat over morning coffee, and the opportunity to get to know our guests. We believe the best hotel experiences happen when people feel seen, welcome, and right at home.

Breakfast is a prime example of our approach. We have put great effort into selecting quality local ingredients, serving them right at your table because we want to give our guests a calm, mindful start to the day – without stress, but with time to savor both the food and the atmosphere.

To us, Hotel Faaborg is not just a hotel – it is an integral part of the town. We love Faaborg and want our guests to experience it just as we do. That is why we happily share our best recommendations for charming lanes, local shops, restaurants, wineries, art, nature, and adventures in the South Fyn Archipelago. When our guests leave with the feeling of both having slept well and truly experienced Faaborg, we have achieved what we set out to do.

Hotel Faaborg is a place with history, heart, and presence. A place where past and present meet, and where we look forward every single day to welcoming new and returning guests.
